Changed as we get to know God

Yesterday we looked at God’s divine power, but notice in 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power grants us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us…”. We must get to know Him, we must spend time with Him, and that means we must learn to talk to Him and to listen to Him.

Jesus called the disciples to come follow Him…He calls us in the same way.  How did you get to know your spouse?  I met Kim, spent time with her, we talked and shared and got to know each other…the more I found out about her the more I wanted to be with her!   The same is true in our relationship with God.  We must spend time with Him.

We must learn to simply ask Him to help us listen…my problem is that I often speak before I listen.  I get in the most trouble when I don’t spend time trying to know Jesus’ will and assume I already know it.  I don’t know about you, but when I just assume I know what Kim wants I get in trouble…I have to ask, I have to listen, I have to observe…doesn’t’ it make sense that our relationship with God will be similar?

God has given us all that we need for life and godliness, but I don’t become practically perfect the moment I'm saved…I must be saved and then grow in my knowledge of Him.  As I grow, through prayer and the Word, I get to know His will, I learn to ask Him for those things in my life, and the Spirit then empowers me!
