Learning to Wait

In his first inaugural address President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) admitted that the United States of America had lost its way. "We don't know where we are going," he said, "but we are on our way."  Isn’t that crazy?!  What if you are on the wrong way?  What if you are headed toward disaster?  We don’t know where we are going, but we are on our way…to disaster!

Trust me, as a man with a long history of not wanting to stop and ask for directions (thank God for GPS) you can’t get to the right place if you are going in the wrong direction.  Jeremiah helps us, "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." (6:16)

If you don’t know the right direction listen to Habakkuk’s advice, “I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me...” (2:1 ESV)

If you don’t know the right way, turn aside, seek after God through His Word, and pray for the Holy Spirit to direct you and then wait!  Wait until He shows you the right path, wait until He points out the right road for you to follow, wait until He leads you by His truth and teaches you, for He is the God of your salvation, and He is worthy of our waiting for His directing.  (Ps 25:4-5)
