No gaps in our time with God

I’m amazed when I read books like The Hidden Life of Prayer by David McIntyre…there are what I’d call “truth bombs” that just blow my mind.  Statements about the saints of the past whom Heaven is well acquainted.

He spoke of a Dr Somerville who asked the General Assembly of his Church, “Will we give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word?”  He suggested that we divide the twelve hours of our day by giving them six hours to pray for the Gospel and six to the ministry of the Word.  Can you imagine?!

Or consider what he said about William Burns, “His whole life was literally a life of prayer, and his whole ministry a series of battles fought at the mercy-seat.”  He said of Burns, “He spent days and sometimes nights before the Lord, and sighed, ‘Oh, for a day every week to spend entirely int eh secret of His presence.’”

He quoted another who spike of William Hewitson of Dirleton, “He seemed to have no intervals in communion with God—no gaps.”  He quoted him as saying, “I am better acquainted with Jesus than with any friend I have on earth.”

Could we find more time to be with the Father?  Could we set as a goal to know Jesus better than anyone we know on earth?  Will you join me in the quest?!
