Equipment for Prayer

I went back this week and re-read David McIntyre’s book, The Hidden Life of Prayer.  He gave an amazingly simple thought about prayer, “The equipment for the inner life of prayer is simple, if not always easily secured.  It consists particularly of a quiet place, a quiet hour, and a quiet heart.”  Think about these three things,
1.  A Quiet Place.  Depending on your family makeup this could be hard.  I remember the Thweatt household when all four girls lived at home…I either had to stay up later or get up earlier for any quiet time.  It is still amazing how quiet the house is at 4 am…so find a quiet place and spend time with the Father.
2.  A Quiet Hour.  McIntyre said, “I do not mean an hour of exactly sixty minutes, but a portion of time withdrawn from the engagements of the day, fenced round from the encroachments of business or pleasure, and dedicated to God.  For me this means I have to turn my phone off, open up my Bible, and spend that time with Him and only Him.
3.  A Quiet Heart.  This may be the hardest of the three.  Recognize that you are accepted before God, that Jesus has gained your right to come boldly before the Father, and rest in Him.  Muller said he could not pray until he had steadied his mind upon a text.  He would read and wait on God to quiet him.
