The Difference Prayer Makes

Does prayer make a difference?  Every single great revival was stated by prayer.  Every major move of the Spirit that we find in the Bible had people praying for the move.  One of the great issues I find in the church today is the lack of prayer.  I worry as I bury prayer warrior after prayer warrior…who will take their place?

Recently I read that some estimate that in the next 30 years, 50 percent of the churches in the US will close, and that over 42 million young people will walk away from the Church.  What’s the answer?

Some suggest it’s political, others see it as purely theological, and others think we must simply work harder.  But maybe it is time to go back to prayer.  I believe in preaching the Word of God…I’ve devoted my ministry to it.  I believe in discipleship…I’ve given a lot of time to it over my years as pastor.  I believe in these things, but ultimately, we seem like a Dodge Charger with a hellcat motor, it has almost 800 horsepower, but we have no gas…there is no power and that power comes through prayer.

The disciples saw the source of power in Jesus’ life…isn’t it interesting that they asked Him to teach them to pray.  What would we ask Him to teach us?  How to teach, how to preach, how to draw a crowd, how to do miracles, how to…?  Maybe that’s the problem.  Maybe that’s the issue…the public life of Jesus was a direct result of His private life in prayer.

Can we ask Him to teach us to pray, open our Bibles and learn to pray the Scripture, and learn to pray for those who are lost, hurting, and sick?  Can we make is a priority and watch God move and do what only He can do?
