Refuel Daily

Years ago, I read about a man who ran out of gas.  He was pacing back and forth in front of his car and a couple pulled over and asked what was wrong.  He said, “I left home in such a hurry to get to an important meeting, but I ran out of gas.”  The couple had a small gas can with them, but it had very little gas in it.  They poured it into his tank and said, “there is a service station just down the road; make sure you stop and get more gas.”  He thanks them and speeds off down the road.  Twenty miles down the road the couple passed him again…he was so busy trying to get to the important meeting that he failed to stop and get gas.

We read that and think, “how foolish,” but don’t we do the same thing?  We get so busy doing life that we forget to stop and refuel.  We soon find ourselves dry and spiritually spent.  We cannot allow ourselves to make excuses…we must be in the Word, we must pray, and we must do both not only daily, but all day each day.

Today is a day we celebrate our freedom as a nation.  But remember, that freedom was earned for us.  In the same way, spiritual freedom comes as we fight the good fight, engage in spiritual warfare, and pray for the One who can do all things to work in our lives and in the lives of those we love.
