Secret Place

When I think about praying in secret I am primarily drawn to the place where I pray alone.  I wrote about that yesterday, but there is another aspect to secret prayer that I am still trying to learn.

I’ve shared this in my sermons, but a few years ago Kim and I were in Georgia for one of our daughters Art Shows.  As we were leaving, we found out that God had answered our prayer for another daughter in a huge way.  As we walked, I said something along the lines of, “Well, we prayed for that!”

The Holy Spirit immediately checked me in the spirit by asking, “Why did you just do that?”  I remember asking Him, “What?”  And He said, “You just took credit for what I did.”  I immediately knew what He was talking about and said, “I’m sorry.  Help me learn to stay in the secret places with you.”

I don’t mean to imply that you never let someone know you are praying for them, or that you never celebrate when God answers a prayer, but I crossed a line…it was true we had prayed for it, but the prayer answer was so big that it was only something He could have done and He alone deserved the glory.

A few months ago, someone shared a huge answer to a prayer I had been praying in the secret place, and I found myself just smiling and whispering, “Thank you God…you did that.”  He gets the glory!  Never forget that…He always gets the glory.
