The Rung of Fullness

We’ve looked at the first three rungs in Paul’s ladder of prayer coming out of Eph 3:14-19.  The first is the rung of power in verse 16, the second is the rung of residence in verse 17a, the third is the rung of comprehension in verses 17b-19b, and today we come to the last rung, the rung of FULLNESS in the second half of verse 19, “that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

I don’t think I ever read those words without wonder…not just filled but filled with the fullness of God!  It’s a word that speaks of being full to the point of overflowing.  It speaks of dominance…if you are full of something, like alcohol, you’ll be dominated by it.  When you are filled with the fullness of God, you will find He is overflowing in every aspect of our life.

Maybe we settle for far too little when there is so much more available.  Let's re-read that last statement and scratch the word "maybe," We settle for far too little when there is so much more available!  Can we learn to start by asking God to give us power in our inner man, then to take up residence and to be at home in our lives and knowing that will come as we comprehend the love of God, and from those three rungs we are ready to climb the rung of fullness.

We will never arrive on this side of Heaven, but we can continue to see Him in our own lives, and we can climb this ladder in prayer for those around us.
