A Page from my Prayer Journal
Got back from Southeast Asia yesterday…from the time we left the hotel to the time I arrived back at home only took 32 hours! Jetlag does a lot to the body, but one of the best parts of it is that I can’t sleep when I arrive in the country where we are ministering…that is, I can’t sleep late. The time alone with God each morning was sweet and here I am this morning at home doing the same thing.
In this blog I have one simple goal…to help you walk with me as I learn how to pray without ceasing. Each morning, I read the chapters assigned by the M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan and then typically use one of the four chapters to write out a prayer in my journal. After this time, I turn to my prayer journal.
I have daily prayer items for my own life, for those in our church, and for my family. I also have weekly items that I pray for on separate days…this morning my focus was on the brothers and sisters with whom we ministered and worked in Africa…those in Mombasa, Mt Elgon, and Tanzania.
As I’m reading the Word of God, I find verses that speak to me and ones that I want to pray, so I write them down in my prayer journal. Let me spend the week giving you examples of different pages in the journal…they are sometimes random, but the pages almost all tend to follow a simple theme.
This is an example of one page in my Prayer Journal:
“And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live.” (Eph 4:30, NLT)
•Throw off the old sinful nature and former way of life (Eph 4:22)
•Let Scripture renew my thoughts and attitudes (Eph 4:23)
•Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. (Eph 4:24)
I then include Colossians 1:9-11, and I added a verse this morning,
“Unseal my lips , O Lord, that my mouth may praise you!” (Ps 51:15 NLT)
This morning, I just “hovered” over this page, as I prayed for each of these items…asking God to move in me and to make me holy and righteous.
As you read God’s Word pray it back and if you find verses that you want to make a part of your daily prayer time write them down!
The most important thing is that we pray!
