Living a Spirit Filled Life
The pages I’m sharing from my Prayer Journal are the ones I start with after reading the Scripture. This morning, I read Hebrews 13 and spent a while in the writer’s benediction. In verse 21 he reminds us of what Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing!”
The verse asks the God who raised Jesus from the dead to “equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Think about what he is saying…he is praying that the God who raised Jesus from the dead will also equip you, by that same power, to do His will. I cannot do His will on my own…He must do it through me. As you might imagine, I spent a lot of time in these verses.
As I turned to my Prayer Journal, I focus on different passages that I’ve written down for prayer…prayer for me and for others.
One of the verses I spend time with is Luke 11:13 where Jesus says, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” He will give His Spirit to those who ask Him!
I know that I have the Holy Spirit in me the moment I am born again, but I ask for His daily filling, I ask for Him to move in my life to enable me to walk and live for His glory. Under that verse I have several prompts from Galatians 5, I wrote about these on Monday, where Paul tells us to:
The Christian life must be a Spirit Filled Life, or we will always find ourselves going under as we try to do it in our power. I must keep in step with the Spirit…the picture is a Drill Instructure giving the cadence for the troops as they march.
At the bottom of the page I wrote, “Not one step out of the cadence of the Holy Spirit.” That’s my goal today…is it yours? Have you asked for His help? Romans 8 tells us to set our minds on the Spirit so ask God to help you, ask Him to fill you, and invite the Holy Spirit to lead you.
Ultimately, it comes down to the prayer in Psalm 25:4-5, “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” Maybe we will camp out on that verse tomorrow…let’s see where the Holy Spirit leads!!

- Walk by the Spirit (16)
- Be led by the Spirit (18)
- To bear the fruit of the Spirit (22-24)
- To live by the Spirit (25)
- And to keep in step with the Spirit. (25)
