Following the Prompts of God

As we learn to pray, we will have to learn to trust God and to follow His prompts.  Have you ever found yourself burdened for someone…maybe in the middle of the night?

Years ago, my dad woke up in the middle of the night and had someone on his mind.  He tried to go back to sleep but couldn’t, so he knew it was God’s prompt for him to pray.  He got down on his knees and prayed for the man until the “unction” went away.

The next day he went to visit that man in the hospital.  He told him that God had led him to pray for him in the middle of the night…he asked what time and dad told him.  It was at the exact moment he coded…God woke my dad to pray for a man who at that very time nurses and doctors were fighting for his life.

I believe God still speaks to us.  He does it primarily through His Word, but He also speaks through His Spirit, through dreams, and through gentle whispers.  Maybe you feel prompted to visit someone, maybe you think about writing them a note, or calling…don’t ignore those prompts…often it is God leading you and involving you in His work.

TW Hunt once told me that he prayed the following prayer every night: God you know how much rest I need tonight, and you know how much you have to say to me in the morning.  Balance the two and wake me up when it is time.  Try that prayer tonight, but throughout the day, follow God’s prompts and see where He leads you.
