Worship

We often get so caught up in the timelines of Revelation that we forget the worship scenes. When I read Revelation 4 and 5 I notice a few things about worship that should impact our daily lives and certainly what we do as we gather on Sunday.

First, it is radically preoccupied with God. As a church we must be careful about allowing other things to slip into our services in the name of worship. Our worship is not to be preoccupied with man or what man has done—it is to be radically preoccupied with the One who sits on the Throne.

Secondly, for worship to be radically preoccupied with God it must be immersed in the work of Jesus. We must sing of our Redeemer with all that we have—sing of what He has done for us, what He is doing in us, and what He will one day do to us. We must keep our eyes on Jesus!

Now, if worship is preoccupied with God and with the work of Christ it must, by nature, refuse to be man centered. We don’t focus on who is leading; rather, we focus on the One to whom we are singing. We don’t focus on the form of the music—we focus on the message of the music. WE don’t focus on the response of people—we focus on the response of our Savior. We worship an Audience of One and His applause is all that matters!

A couple of weeks ago I sat in the church above and worshiped with eh people of God. They sang with great joy, I didn’t understand a word that they were singing, I couldn’t keep up with the clap or rhythm, but I worshiped and I remembered that one day we’d all be around the Throne of Heaven and worship Him together.
