I find that I keep coming back to Galatians 5. Paul tells us to do four things in regard to living the Christian life: 1) walk by the Spirit, 2) be led by the Spirit, 3) live by the Spirit, and 4) keep in step with the Spirit. If I do these things I will bear the fruit of the Spirit.
The key is to live there continually, to evaluate your life moment-by-moment, and if I’m drifting, to pray quickly and get back in step.
Recently I read a quote by CS Lewis that brought me back to just how important it is to keep in step with Holy Spirit.
“Every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the thing that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before and taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, all your life long you are slowly turning this central thing into a heavenly creature or into a hellish creature.”
That is so very powerful. Every choice matters. Every decision is important. That is why it is so important that we walk in the Spirit today. That we are led by Him. That we live our lives by the Spirit right now. That we keep in step with Him as a platoon keeps in step with the drill sergeant. Thankfully, He treats us differently than the drill sergeant!
