Results of Salvation

When you come to Psalm 119:44 we come to a series of things that come as a result of God’s salvation. I love this…I will trust, (42) and I will hope (43), but he goes further. Look at verse 44, “I will keep your law continually, forever and ever.” He promises obedience. I will keep. That’s what the Word does in our life…it takes us to God, to God’s promises, and through His Spirit it leads us to righteous living.

In 2 Timothy 3:16 we are told that, “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” but listen to verse 17, “that the man of God may be complete, equipped for ever good work.” Getting in the Word of God teaches us, reproves us, trains us, completes us, and equips us. That’s why Satan will do everything he can to distract you from the Word of God.

And then in verse 45, “And I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought your precepts.” He is talking about freedom. Satan lies and tells us that freedom comes from living according to the desires of the flesh and that in disobedience we find the wide and easy way, but freedom comes from living in God’s will. Man was never more free than when he was in the Garden with the Father, but sin changed that.

The wide place is the freedom that comes from living in God’s will…the freedom that comes from obedience. Yes, we are called to walk the narrow road, but when you walk the ancient paths in the power of the Holy Spirit that narrow path seems wide…it is freedom. The world doesn’t understand this…they are like the people in Plato’s cave—living in the shadow world thinking shadows are the reality, but the reality is out of the cave of sin and in the light of God’s Word. Paul said, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free; stand therefore and do submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

It is amazing to see how much better life is when we submit our rebel wills to the will of the Father and find the freedom of living in His abundance!
