Singing and Dancing with the Trees and their Creator

Yesterday morning I was sitting outside under two oak trees and looking over the neighbor’s pasture. I turned to Psalm 96 and began to pray it. In the NLT the psalmist opens with,

“Sing a new song to the LORD!

Let the whole earth sing to the LORD!

Sing to the LORD; praise his name.

Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.

Publish his glorious deeds among the nations.

Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.

Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise!

He is to be feared above all gods.”

He then calls upon the nations to praise Him, and as I’m praying those words out loud I come to verse 8, “Give to the LORD the glory he deserves,” and the oak trees above me are starting to rustle in the wind…the sound continues to grow as I pray “Worship the LORD in all His splendor,” and as I get to verse 12 the trees all along the edge of the pasture start to join in the song and dance, I literally start praying, “Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest sing for joy,” and it was if God, the Conductor of Creations Symphony, brought the wind and trees and leaves to a crescendo of worship! They were literally roaring above me.

The breeze that had been gentle, grew to a roar in the treetops, and then settled down. With tears in my eyes, I simply thanked Abba for letting me be a part of the song and asked that the nations would indeed join me.

There are days when God whispers His presence and then there are days like this…where He just shouts, “I’m here!”
