No Ordinary People

Have you ever stopped to consider how God feels about the people you demonize?  There is a lot of ugly in Social Media today.  The categories have been defined, the lines have been drawn, and it has become us versus them, but what does God think about the person created in His image?

In CS Lewis’ “Weight of Glory,” he talks about people and glory.  He said,

“There are no ordinary people.  You have never talked to a mere moral.  Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations—these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit—immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”

But read the Facebook or Twitter exchanges and you’d think people are gnats and nations are immortal.  I’ve grew so weary of Twitter/X and the negativity that I deleted my account.  Facebook is also becoming weary.  I read followers of Jesus attack each other, I watch followers of Jesus treat the lost as if they are just gnats and put politics and sports over godliness.

I don’t weigh into politics on Social Media or from my pulpit.  I take seriously the words of the Apostle Paul, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

And also, the words of the Apostle Peter, “Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”

Isn’t that the key?
  • Honor everyone.
  • Love the brotherhood.
  • Fear God.
